Your guide picks you up at 7:30 am from your centrally located Changsha hotel and drives you 2 hours to Mt Hengshan, also known as Nanyue or South Mountain. The mountain holds 72 peaks across its range. You start at Nanyue Great Temple at the foot of the mountain, then take either a mini-bus or cable car up to Nantian Gate, the gateway to the higher elevations. From there you walk about an hour to Zhurong Temple, perched on the mountain's top. Zhurong Peak itself is the must-see point: the rocks and summits around it are the reason most visitors come.

After you descend back to Nantian Gate by cable car or mini-bus, the afternoon is yours to explore other sites if time allows: Buxian Bridge or Zhonglie Temple are options depending on how the day unfolds. You'll have lunch during the tour and bottled water throughout. In the late afternoon, your guide drives you back to your Changsha hotel, where the tour ends.
