Mutianyu Great Wall: Prebooked Entry & Cable Car Access

You send your passport details in advance, skip the entry queue when you arrive, and ride the cable car from Tower 14 toward Tower 20 at your own pace. The roundtrip cable car and entrance fee are included; you arrange your own transport to the site and walk the final stretch to the gate. Plan for a few hours on the wall, depending on how far you want to hike.

The Experience

The line at the gate can stretch for hours, especially on weekends or in Beijing's brutal heat. But if you've already got your ticket scanned and loaded on your phone, you walk straight past all of it. That's the whole point of prebooking the Mutianyu Great Wall ticket—you send your passport details ahead, and when you arrive, you just scan and go. No waiting in the sun, no second-guessing whether you should have come earlier. The entrance fee itself is small, but the time you save is the real win.

Once you're through the gate, the cable car does most of the climbing for you. You board at the roundtrip cable car station and ride up to Tower 14, where the wall opens up across the Yanshan mountain range—the views are genuinely wide and clean from up there. From Tower 14, you can hike toward Tower 20 on your own schedule, no guide, no group pace. Some people spend twenty minutes up there, others spend two hours. The cable car back down is included, so you don't have to retrace your steps on foot. The whole thing—cable car up, walking the wall, cable car down—takes as long as you want it to.

Getting to Mutianyu itself is on you; the ticket doesn't include transport from Beijing. You'll need to arrange a taxi, hire a driver, or join a separate shuttle. Once you're at the No. 1 Parking Lot, there's an internal ride to the foot of the wall, then a five-minute walk to the entry gate where you scan your passport. It's straightforward, but it does mean coordinating your own way there and back. If you're comfortable with that, the prebooked ticket cuts through the main friction point—the entry line—and leaves you free to move at your own pace on the wall itself.

What’s included

  • Mutianyu Great Wall entrance ticket and roundtrip cable car access.
  • You scan your passport at entry and at the cable car station.
  • An internal shuttle from the parking lot to the wall's foot is included.
  • You do not receive transportation to or from Beijing, and no guide is provided.

Is this one for you?Right for travelers staying in Beijing who want to visit the Great Wall without spending hours in an entry queue or hiring a guide. You'll need to arrange your own transport to the site and be comfortable hiking at your own pace; the cable car handles the steep climbing, but you're moving independently once you're on the wall.
