The experience
The day starts with pickup from your Macau hotel and moves through the city's oldest sites in a single arc. You'll stand in front of the Ruins of St. Paul, where only the stone façade and grand staircase remain from the church built in 1602, then walk down through the pedestrianized Senado Square (a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2005) passing the historical buildings that frame it. The Kun Iam Statue, a 20-meter bronze figure dedicated to the Goddess of Mercy, comes next before you reach the A-Ma Temple, built in 1488 and one of Macau's three oldest temples, also on the UNESCO list.
Buffet lunch is served at the Metropark Hotel Macau partway through the tour. After eating, you visit the Macau Tower, a 338-meter structure designed by New Zealand architect Gordon Moller and ranked the 11th highest in the world. The tour includes a stop at one of Macau's world-renowned casinos at the Venetian Macau, where you can try your luck if you choose. An air-conditioned vehicle carries the group throughout, and your English-speaking guide provides commentary at each stop.
The observation deck at Macau Tower (Level 61) is available at your own expense if you want the panoramic view of the Pearl River Delta. It's not bundled into the tour price. The whole experience runs about five hours from hotel pickup to return.
