The experience

The day starts with pickup from your Hong Kong hotel and transport to the ferry terminal. The turbojet crossing takes you across the water to Macau, where your English-speaking guide meets you. Because the group travels on different ferries depending on availability, there's sometimes a wait once everyone arrives: a normal part of group travel on this route. From there, the itinerary moves through the old city: the Ruins of St. Paul's, a four-tiered stone facade that survived a fire in 1835 and now stands as Macau's symbol; Monte Fort, the Jesuit-built fortress from 1617 that defended the city against a Dutch invasion in 1622; and the Old City Walls, constructed from clay, sand, rice straw, rocks and oyster shells in the 16th and 17th centuries.

The tour also covers Senado Square, paved in black and white Portuguese gravel in a wavy pattern, surrounded by Southern European architecture; A-Ma Temple, the oldest temple in Macau, built centuries ago by fishermen to honor their protective goddess; and Nam Van Lake, created when a causeway closed off what was once Praia Grande Bay. Lunch is included partway through the day. The Macau Tower, standing 338 meters high, rounds out the modern side of the itinerary before the group heads back to the ferry terminal.

Return transport to Hong Kong is included, with drop-off at your hotel. The full day (ferry, guide, vehicle, meals and insurance) is priced as one booking. You'll need your passport and any required Macau visa before departure. Visa requirements are your responsibility to confirm in advance.

Is this one for you?Eight hours is enough to see the main historical sites and Macau Tower, but leaves the rest of your day free if you're based in Hong Kong. The fixed schedule means you travel with a group, so you'll wait for other ferry arrivals in the morning: a trade-off for having everything arranged and priced as one booking.

Yes. Ticket types: Infant (under 3).

What is the Ruins of St. Paul and why does it matter to Macau?

The Ruins of St. Paul is a stone facade built in 1602 as a church. After a fire destroyed the building in 1835, only the dramatic front remained standing in four colonnaded tiers with carvings and statues. It has become the symbol of Macau and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Historic Centre of Macao.

Do I need a visa to visit Macau from Hong Kong?

Visa requirements depend on your nationality and are your responsibility to confirm before the tour. You must bring your passport and obtain any required Macau visa in advance. The tour operator cannot arrange this for you.

What happens if not everyone arrives on the same ferry in the morning?

Since travelers arrive on different turbojet ferries depending on availability, there is sometimes a wait once the group reaches Macau while everyone gathers. This is a normal part of group travel on this route and the guide will wait for the full group before the tour begins.

Is lunch included, and what about drinks at Macau Tower?

Lunch is included in the tour price. Macau Tower visits are part of the itinerary, though any food or drinks you purchase there are separate.

What level of fitness do I need for this tour?

The tour requires at least a moderate level of physical fitness. You'll be walking between sites and climbing stairs at some attractions like the Ruins of St. Paul and Monte Fort.
