The experience

Your guide meets you at the hotel lobby at either 9am or 2pm and takes you first to Sidalin Park, where you'll see locals doing morning or afternoon exercise. From there, you head to the Harbin Ropeway for the cable car ride across Songhua River. As you cross, you overlook the Harbin Opera House, Science and Technology Museum, Highway Bridge, and Sun Island. The vantage point lets you see how the city sits along the river without stopping at each site.

After the ropeway descent, you walk into Russian Town with your guide. The quarter holds 27 villas and houses from the last century, each one a record of Russian architecture and daily life. You'll receive a Russian passport ticket for entry. Today these buildings house local shops, galleries and exhibitions selling Russian souvenirs and art. The walk is slow enough to look inside. Once you've finished exploring, you take the ropeway back to the start point, and your guide returns you to your hotel.

The tour runs four hours total. If your group has more than three people, you travel by private vehicle. Smaller groups use a taxi. Comfortable walking shoes matter for the Russian Town section, which is the only part on foot.
