The experience
You start at Casa Pumagui with a safety briefing before a moderate hike to a high viewpoint overlooking the Elqui Valley. The trek is timed to reach the overlook as the sun drops toward the mountains, turning the landscape through shades of orange and red. When the first stars appear, you sit for a guided meditation with Tibetan bowls: a moment designed to settle you into the environment before the astronomy begins.
Once the sky darkens, the guide walks you through the constellations visible from the southern hemisphere using professional astronomical binoculars mounted on a tripod. You'll learn how Andean cultures read the night sky and their relationship to the desert landscape below. The experience closes with an astrophotography session so you leave with a photograph of your own encounter with the universe. Trekking poles, a portable chair, herbal tea and a light snack are provided. You bring hiking shoes and a moderate level of fitness.
Transfer runs from Vicuña to Villaseca and back. The guide speaks English or Spanish. Children are welcome from age 10, though the operator notes the experience is designed for travelers seeking nature, wellness and authentic connection rather than family groups.
