Stepping out of Santiago’s airport, I spotted my name on a small sign—always a relief after a long flight. Our driver greeted us with a quick smile and helped load our bags into the back of a clean sedan. The city air was cool that morning, with just a hint of diesel and bakery bread drifting in from somewhere nearby. We set off through the outskirts of Santiago, passing rows of eucalyptus trees and the odd street vendor selling mote con huesillo at the roadside.
The drive to Viña del Mar took about two hours, though it honestly felt quicker. Our driver chatted about local football teams and pointed out where the Andes start to fade into rolling vineyards. There was some traffic near Curacaví—apparently pretty normal if you’re traveling around lunchtime—but nothing too bad. If you’re headed to Valparaiso instead, you’ll notice how the hills start rising up as you get closer, and sometimes you can catch a whiff of sea air before you even see the ocean.
Most of the time, yes—you can select your preferred departure hour when booking. Sometimes we suggest a time based on traffic or your flight details for smoother travel.
Usually around two hours, but it depends on traffic and weather conditions that day.
