The experience
Petrohué Falls is the day's anchor: you walk forest paths to reach the waterfall where turquoise water rushes over volcanic rock formations with the snow-capped Osorno Volcano behind it. Your guide points out the best viewpoints and explains the area's natural history. From there the route moves to Puerto Varas, where you walk the lakeside promenade and historic center, stopping at viewpoints of Lake Llanquihue and the volcano. The guide shares the town's German heritage and shows you where the best cafés and bakeries are. Here you pause for a traditional snack: a freshly baked Chilean beef empanada (vegetarian option available) with a complimentary glass of Chilean wine, red or white.
Frutillar closes the day with a lakeside walk that moves through the town's postcard moments. You stop at the iconic wooden pier for photos of the lake and volcano, then at the famous outdoor piano for another snapshot. The walk leads to Teatro del Lago, the cultural landmark on the water's edge, where the day ends with a slice of homemade Chilean cake (either a German kuchen or the classic torta de amor) prepared by your guide's own store. Bottled water and soft beverages travel with you throughout.
