The experience
Seven to nine hours takes you from La Serena into the Elqui Valley, a region built on pisco production and mountain vineyards. The route begins at Puclaro Reservoir, where the valley opens into panoramic views framed by mountains. From there you move to the CAPEL distillery, home to one of Chile's first pisco museums, where a guide walks you through the production process and you taste the spirit itself. The second stop is Cavas del Valle, a high-altitude winery where you learn how the valley's elevation shapes the wine, then taste what comes from those vines.
Lunch happens in Pisco Elqui, the village the spirit is named after, where you eat a traditional meal and have free time to walk the main square and browse local artisan shops. The afternoon moves through Montegrande, the quiet village where Gabriela Mistral, Chile's Nobel Prize-winning poet, lived, then finishes in Vicuña, the cultural heart of the valley, where you can explore on your own before the drive back to La Serena.
