The experience

The boat leaves Puerto Natales for the Última Esperanza Fjord, where the captain steers close to cormorant colonies, sea lion ravines, a condor cliff, and waterfalls that drop straight into the water. The route follows the fjord into Bernardo O'Higgins National Park and stops at Puerto Toro, where you disembark and walk 40 minutes through a lush forest of coihues and southern beeches to reach the main viewpoint facing Serrano Glacier. The walk is the only way to reach the glacier on foot. The forest itself is the approach.

After time to explore the glacier views and nearby trails, you return to the boat, where the crew greets you with a glass of whiskey made with ancient glacier ice, coffee, or hot tea. The ship then sails to a traditional Patagonian estancia (ranch) for lunch: salad, soup, grilled lamb with potatoes, dessert, and Chilean wine or a drink of your choice. Vegetarian alternatives are available. The return voyage brings you back to Puerto Bories by shuttle, arriving in the city center between 4 and 5 p.m., depending on the season.
