Surf lessons on São Vicente with a private instructor, transportation, full equipment and a certificate. The lesson adapts to your level: beginners learn to pop up and catch ripples. Experienced surfers work on turns and positioning. Pickup is included. Children are welcome from age 8.

The experience

The lesson starts on land. Your instructor meets you and goes over technique with the board still in the sand, then leads a short warm-up before you enter the water. Equipment (surfboard, softboard, longboard, wetsuit, leash and wax) is provided. The instructor chooses what suits the conditions and your ability that day.

São Vicente's beaches are quiet, and the drive there is part of the experience: you'll take a walk around the island on the way, getting a sense of the place before you paddle out. The three-hour window covers the drive, the beach time and the instruction, so plan the rest of your day around a morning or afternoon slot.

Progression depends entirely on what you bring. Beginners focus on the pop-up: getting from lying down to standing on the board smoothly enough to catch small waves. If you already have that, the lesson moves to carving: angling the board to turn left and right across the face of the wave. Either way, you'll leave with a certificate and a real sense of what the best waves on the island feel like.
