Step-by-step itinerary
Stargazing tour in Viana desert
- Travel to Viana desert camp
- Enjoy sunset meditation and snacks
- Observe stars and planets with telescopes
- Learn night sky symbolism with astrologer
The experience
The Viana desert sits just 16 degrees from the equator, which means you can see star constellations from both the northern and southern hemispheres in a single night. Something impossible from Europe. The camp is set up in the dunes, far enough from Boa Vista's city lights that the sky opens up without interference. You arrive at sunset and begin with a meditation and typical Cape Verde snacks while the day ends, then move to the sky tent once dusk falls.
Two experienced stargazers guide you through planets, stars, moons, constellations and shooting stars using telescopes. An astrologer joins to unpack the mythical symbolism woven through the night sky, turning the stargazing into a moment for reflection and self-knowledge alongside the astronomy. Blankets, coffee or tea, and the certified guide's knowledge come included. The vehicle is air-conditioned and you're welcome to sit outside on the ride out if you want.
The group stays small, and your guide speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian or one of two additional languages. Pickup from your hotel is part of the booking, so you don't arrange transport yourself. Children from age four are welcome on the tour.
