The Experience

So you're standing on the boat and your guide is pointing out Monte Leão — this mountain that actually looks like a sleeping lion if you squint — and you realize the whole island is basically volcanic rock and salt flats, right? That's Sal. The half-day tour hits the main spots without eating your whole day: Murdeira Bay first, where the water sits so calm because the coast and the mountain wall it off on both sides. Summer brings loggerhead turtles to the shallows there.
