The experience

Sal Rei is the only place in Boa Vista where you can ride a buggy at night. After pickup from your hotel, you drive out into Viana Desert, one of Cape Verde's natural wonders, and after a stretch through the white sand, you stop for a few minutes in the dark to rest and look up at the starry sky. The quiet and the scale of it hit differently when there's nothing else around.

From there you head toward the Church of Fatima, passing through Via Pitoresca, an off-road path where Acacia trees bend low over the track. It's a quick second stop before the ride loops back to Sal Rei for a scenic pass through town. The whole outing runs two hours. You'll need a valid driver's license to operate the buggy, and the weight limit per seat is 120 kg (265 lbs).
