The experience
The tour starts at 1:50 pm and runs for three hours. A guide boards the bus with you and leads the route through the preserve, stopping at each wildlife enclosure long enough to watch the animals, ask questions and take photographs. The bus does the moving between stops, so you're not walking the grounds. You stay seated and step out only at the viewing areas.
Eleven species live in the preserve year-round. Moose, elk and caribou occupy the larger enclosures. Smaller habitats hold lynx, arctic fox, musk-ox and bighorn sheep. The guide explains how each animal survives the Yukon winter and what makes them adapted to the True North. A photographer or naturalist will find the proximity and the time at each stop built for close observation and detail.
Hotel pickup and drop-off in Whitehorse are included, so you don't arrange transport to the preserve. Admission to the Yukon Wildlife Preserve is also included in the tour price. The guide speaks English, Spanish or Japanese depending on the departure you book.
