Whistler guided day hiking: Choose your trail and distance
Alpine meadows, suspension bridges, rainforest lakes: four trails, four different days
Guided day hikes in Whistler let you choose between four trails of different lengths and terrain: a half-day Crater Rim crossing, a half-day Cheakamus Lake walk through old-growth forest, or a full-day loop to either Garibaldi Lake or Iceberg Lake. A professional guide leads the route in your choice of language and points out the landscape as you go. Children from age 8 are welcome, and the hikes run in all weather.

The experience
The Sea to Sky area around Whistler holds some of the region's most direct access to alpine terrain. You pick one of four trails at checkout: Crater Rim is the shortest at 4 hours and 8 kilometers, starting by crossing a suspension bridge over a glacially fed river lined with Douglas Firs and Western Hemlock before the trail opens into views. Cheakamus Lake takes the same 4 hours but covers 10 kilometers through rainforest thick with giant Cedars before breaking out at the lake's edge. Both are half-day options that leave room for the rest of your day in Whistler.
The full-day hikes demand more time and elevation. Garibaldi Lake is 19 kilometers over 6 to 8 hours, climbing steeply at first into alpine meadows where wildflowers bloom before the lake itself comes into view. Iceberg Lake is the most challenging: a 19-kilometer loop that takes 7 to 8 hours and is best done from July through September, passing smaller lakes like Screaming Cat on the way to the main destination. Neither is technical, but both ask for steady legs and a full day's commitment.
A professional guide leads whichever route you choose and speaks English, Spanish, French or Japanese. The guide provides interpretive commentary on the landscape and terrain as you walk. The tour operates in all weather, so bring layers and rain gear suited to the mountain environment. Children from age 8 can join when accompanied by an adult. The rocky terrain means the hikes are not suitable for those with mobility difficulties or wheelchair use.

What's the difference between the Garibaldi Lake and Iceberg Lake full-day hikes?
Garibaldi Lake covers 19 kilometers in 6 to 8 hours and starts with a steep climb into alpine meadows before reaching the lake itself. Iceberg Lake is also 19 kilometers but takes 7 to 8 hours as a loop trail and is best hiked from July to September. It passes smaller lakes like Screaming Cat along the way and is considered more challenging terrain.
Do I need to arrange my own transportation to the trailhead?
Hotel pickup and drop-off are not included, so you'll need to arrange your own way to the starting point. The guide meets you at the trailhead for the hike itself.
Can I bring my eight-year-old on one of these hikes?
Children from age 8 are welcome on any of the four trails as long as they're accompanied by an adult. The half-day options like Crater Rim or Cheakamus Lake may suit younger hikers better than the full-day routes.
What should I bring for a full-day hike like Iceberg Lake?
The tour operates in all weather, so dress in layers suited to the mountain environment and bring rain gear. Water and snacks are not included, so pack your own supplies for the 7 to 8 hours on the trail.
