Whale Watching Tour in Victoria: Zodiac Boat on the Salish Sea
Four whale species and a Zodiac built for the ocean swells
A whale watching tour in Victoria on the Salish Sea aboard an open-air Zodiac boat with a certified Skipper who doubles as a naturalist guide. You wear a Transport Canada-mandated Mustang flotation suit and travel with up to 11 other passengers on a custom-built vessel designed for stability and close approach. The operator guarantees a 95 percent whale sighting success rate during peak season; if no whales appear, you receive a complimentary return trip.
Step-by-step itinerary
Whale watching on Salish Sea
- Board 12-passenger Zodiac boat
- Wear Mustang flotation suit
- Watch for whales and marine life
- Learn about whales and ecosystem
- Enjoy coastal scenery and fresh air
The Experience
The Zodiac departs for the Salish Sea with a certified Skipper who narrates the journey and explains the marine ecosystem as you travel. Watch for Humpback, Orca, Gray and Minke Whales, along with sea lions, seals, porpoises and coastal birds. The boat's design—agile and stable in open water—lets it move closer than larger vessels while keeping the ride manageable in the swells. You'll be fitted into a Mustang flotation suit before boarding, a requirement that also means you stay warm and buoyant if the water sprays over the bow.
The tour runs about three and a half hours and operates rain or shine, so dress in layers and bring a waterproof jacket. The Salish Sea can be rough, and the operator will cancel only if conditions make it unsafe; if that happens, you get a different date or a full refund. Public transportation reaches the departure point, so you don't need a rental car to get there.
