The experience

White sturgeon live in the Fraser and Harrison rivers year-round, and the best fishing runs from March through November. These fish reach up to 1,100 pounds and range from 1 to 13 feet in length, sometimes larger. When you hook one, you're in for what the operator calls an epic battle: sturgeon are known to jump clear out of the water multiple times during the fight, and their strength means they'll give you a genuine run for your money. The guide handles the logistics and knows the water. You handle the rod.

River Wrangler Sportfishing operates out of Chilliwack, one hour east of Vancouver. The outfitter is fully licensed and insured, and the guides specialize in sturgeon and salmon fishing with many years of experience on the water. Depending on the season, you may also catch Chinook salmon (normally 10–40 lbs), sockeye (5–15 lbs), chum (10–25 lbs), coho (5–15 lbs), or pink salmon in odd-numbered years (4–8 lbs). A fresh water fishing license with a sturgeon tag is required before you go.

Is this one for you?You fish from the boat with the guide. This is a hands-on day on the water, not a spectator experience. It suits anyone who wants to feel the fight of a large fish and doesn't mind a full day of active fishing, regardless of prior experience.
