You’ll stand at Cape Spear with salt on your lips, hear stories from Come From Away cast members, eat fresh seafood in a fishing village, and climb Signal Hill for wild Atlantic views. With only six guests per outing, you’ll get real conversation—and maybe even laughter that sticks with you longer than you’d think.
I didn’t expect to start the day standing at Cape Spear, shivering a little in the wind and realizing I was literally the easternmost person in North America. Deneen—who somehow knows everyone—handed me a coffee (strong, sweet) while Larry pointed out where the Atlantic just crashes right up against the rocks. The air smelled salty and sharp, and for a second all you could hear was gulls and that wild water. Someone made a joke about us being “the first people to see the sun,” but it was cloudy so we just laughed and kept walking toward the old lighthouse. My shoes got muddy. Worth it.
Driving out of St. John’s felt like slipping into someone else’s story for a bit. We stopped in Petty Harbour—tiny fishing boats bobbing around, paint peeling off sheds—and Deneen told us about Alan Doyle growing up there (I only half-pretended to know who that was). Lunch happened at this spot called By the Beach; I still think about that fish and chips—crispy batter, fresh as anything, eaten with my hands because why not? The woman who cooked it called us “my ducks” which cracked me up.
There’s this part where you climb up Signal Hill and suddenly St. John’s just opens up below you—the harbor twisting around like some old storybook map. Our guide (I think it was Larry this time) talked about Cabot Tower and World War II cannons but honestly I got distracted by how windy it was and how my cheeks hurt from smiling so much. On the way back we rolled through Portugal Cove; windows fogged up from all of us talking over each other about what surprised us most. I guess I didn’t expect to feel so…included? Like we were part of something local for a few hours.
