The experience

The boat itself is built for speed and reach: a rigid hull inflatable with shock-mitigating seats that lets the crew cover a large area of water in a single day, which means more chances to spot wildlife. You'll wear a two-piece flotation suit and carry binoculars as you move through the waters and islands off the west coast, watching for movement in the water, on land and in the air. The guide knows the local waters and the best places to see each species, though which animals appear depends on the day, not every trip brings all eight types into view.

Lunch and hot drinks come on board, and dietary needs (gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, dairy-free) can be arranged with 24 hours' notice. The tour runs 5½ to 6 hours total. You'll need to arrive at Coastal Rainforest Safaris' office in Port Hardy 30 minutes before departure to be fitted for your flotation suit and complete a waiver.

What’s included

  • Two-piece flotation suits and binoculars.
  • lunch with coffee or tea.
  • a restroom on board.
  • a live English-speaking guide.
  • WiFi on board on some departures.

Is this one for you?Book this tour if you want a full day of active searching rather than a shorter boat ride: the 5½ to 6 hour span and the boat's speed let the crew cover enough water to maximize your chances of seeing multiple species across different parts of the coast.
