Step-by-step itinerary
Private wildlife safari and nature walk
- Meet your experienced guide
- Drive to remote Canadian Rockies areas
- Spot wildlife at known hotspots
- Pause for a custom nature walk
- Learn about local flora and fauna
The experience
You start with pickup from your hotel or meeting point, then head into Kananaskis in a comfortable van with a guide who has spent time learning where animals actually move through the landscape. The drive itself is the first half of the day: your guide navigates to remote areas and known hotspots, pausing when there's a chance to watch for wildlife. Elk, deer, mountain goats and eagles do appear here, though sightings depend on the season and the animals' own schedules. What your guide brings is the knowledge of which meadows and ridgelines are worth your time, and the ability to read the terrain for recent tracks and signs.
Partway through, you leave the van for a custom nature walk. This is not a set trail: your guide tailors it to what you want to see and how far you want to go, whether that's a meadow walk, a riverbank stroll or a forest section. As you move through it, the guide shares the ecology of what you're standing in: how the plants and animals fit together, what the landscape has been through, why certain species live here and others don't. The walk lets you slow down and notice details the drive doesn't catch.
The whole outing runs about 4 hours. Park admission is included, and the van is yours alone: no other groups, no fixed schedule beyond the time you've booked. You'll need to be comfortable with a vehicle ride over uneven terrain and walking on natural ground, but the pace is set by you and your guide, not by a group clock.

Top questions
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24h before the start.
What animals might I actually see on the Kananaskis safari drive?
Elk, deer, mountain goats and eagles are the species your guide will look for in their known habitats. Wildlife encounters are not guaranteed, animals move on their own schedule, but your guide's knowledge of the terrain and recent activity gives you the best chance of spotting them in the places they're most likely to be.
How does pickup work if I'm staying in Canmore but don't have a car?
Pickup is included and arranged at your hotel or a meeting point you choose in Canmore. The guide arrives in the van, and you travel together into Kananaskis from there, so you don't need to arrange separate transportation to the trailhead.
Is the nature walk a set trail or can I choose where we go?
The nature walk is custom: your guide tailors it to your interests and fitness level. You might walk through meadows, along riverbanks or into forest sections, depending on what you want to see and how far you want to go.
What's included in the 4-hour tour?
Private transportation in a van, park admission fees and the guide's time are all included. The guide speaks English and will share insights about the region's ecology and natural history throughout the drive and walk.
Do I need to be very fit to do this tour?
The tour is suitable for all physical fitness levels. The pace of both the drive and the walk is set by you and your guide, so you can go as far or as short as feels right for you.
