The experience

You arrive in Tobermory and park in town, then board Tre Anni for a route that water access alone makes possible. The boat hugs the Bruce Peninsula shoreline first, where endless cliffs rise with overhangs above crevices and caverns. At the Grotto, you'll see the mass of hikers who walked from Cypress Lake parking lot, but you're viewing it from the water, a different angle entirely. The guide points out Cave Point as you pass, then the boat turns toward open Georgian Bay.

The crossing takes you to Flowerpot Island, where two monolithic stone formations rise from the water. The guide tells the legend of how they formed (the tale of the man and the maiden), while the boat approaches slowly so you can photograph them together. From there, the route passes Flowerpot lighthouse, then curves past Echo Island's colourful cavernous cliffs and through the Otter Island channel toward Russell Island. Along this stretch, the guide recounts the history of shipwrecks in these waters. Depending on wind conditions, you may see down through the turquoise water toward the submerged wrecks visible in the Maritime museum below.

The whole tour runs two hours, with travel time built in. Life jackets are provided. Because conditions on Georgian Bay shift, the exact route depends on wind and waves on the day you go: the guide adjusts to keep the boat safe and the views clear.

Top questions

What languages is the tour guided in?

Live guide in English and French.

What happens if it rains?

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.

What is the Grotto and why do so many people hike to it?

The Grotto is a cave formation on the Bruce Peninsula shoreline, accessible by a hiking trail from Cypress Lake parking lot. On your boat tour, you see it from the water without the hike, and you'll notice the crowds who walked in from land.

Can I get close enough to the Flowerpots to take photos?

Yes. The boat approaches the Flowerpots slowly so you can view them together, then moves in close enough for selfies and group shots beneath the stone formations.

What happens if the weather is bad on the day of my tour?

The tour depends on wind and wave conditions on Georgian Bay. If conditions are unsafe, the guide adjusts the route to keep the boat in calmer water, or the operator will reschedule you for another day.

Is this tour suitable for children or people who get seasick easily?

The tour suits all physical fitness levels. Infants must sit on an adult's lap. If you're prone to seasickness, the two-hour duration and the guide's ability to adjust the route based on conditions help, though Georgian Bay can have waves depending on the day.
