The experience
The Johnstone Strait is home to sea stars, orcas and bald eagles, with rainforested mountains rising straight from the water. You paddle the rugged shoreline of Vancouver Island yourself, poking into tidal shallows and drifting under eagles' nests before the guide brings the group to a remote beach for lunch. The afternoon fills with more paddling and interpretation of the wildlife and landscape around you.
Your guide provides all instruction and equipment you need (kayak, paddle and lifejacket), so no prior experience is required. The full day runs about seven hours, with up to four hours of actual paddling broken into manageable stretches. Children from age four are welcome, and the guide adjusts the pace and distance to match the group's fitness level.
