The experience
How do you actually spend three hours on a mountain at night? You start indoors with a dome presentation on the Jasper Dark Sky Preserve and what you'll see overhead, then ride the SkyTram with a guide who explains the landscape and sky as you ascend. At the Upper Station, the exhibits and activities are yours to explore at your own pace: no fixed schedule, no herding between stops. You'll stand at interactive telescope stations to view deep-space imagery from a remote 4K telescope, handle meteorites, and move through astrophotography and nature-photography displays. The planetarium experts are there if you have questions, but the evening is built around what you want to linger on.
The timing matters: you're there from golden hour through full darkness, so the view and the sky change as you move through the evening. If you've booked the dinner package, the two-course meal at the Summit Café happens between the exhibits and the night-sky programming, so you eat while the light is still there. Either way, the Jasper Planetarium team runs immersive programming on the night sky as darkness settles, tying together what you've learned in the dome and what you've seen through the telescopes. Infants and small children can come in a stroller. Service animals are welcome.

Is this one for you?Choose the package with dinner if you want a full evening experience that includes a meal. The Lite package works just as well if you prefer to focus on the astronomy and exhibits without the added time and cost of dining. Either way, the self-paced exploration means you can spend as long as you want at the telescopes or exhibits that interest you most.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (6 to 15 years); Infant (under 6): free.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. No refund if you cancel.
What's the difference between the two packages?
Sun to Stars Lite includes the dome presentation, tram ride, exhibits, and interactive telescope stations. Sun to Stars with Dinner adds a two-course meal at the Summit Café, served during the evening. Both packages include the same access to meteorite displays, astrophotography exhibits, and night-sky programming.
Do I need to know anything about astronomy to enjoy this?
No. The dome presentation introduces the Jasper Dark Sky Preserve and what's visible in the night sky, and the planetarium experts are there to answer questions at the telescope stations and during the evening programming. The exhibits are designed to work whether you're a first-time stargazer or someone with experience.
What happens if the weather is bad?
The dome presentation and exhibits happen indoors at the Upper Station, so those portions run regardless of weather. Clear skies improve the telescope viewing and night-sky programming, but the planetarium team adapts the evening programming to what's visible.
Is transportation to the SkyTram included?
The package includes admission to the Jasper SkyTram and the tram ride itself. Hotel pickup and drop-off, or transportation from other locations to the SkyTram base, are not included. You'll need to arrange your own way to the attraction.
