Fish the Yukon backcountry from a heated shelter, with sonar and a guide who knows where they are

A private ice fishing trip in the Yukon pairs you with an experienced guide on backcountry or near-city lakes, using top-end equipment, Garmin sonar units and a Livescope system inside a heated shelter. You choose the lake location when you book. The guide handles the rest. The four-hour outing includes all fishing gear, warm drinks and snacks. Travelers 16 and older will need a Yukon fishing license.

The experience

You arrive and get driven by snowmobile and sleigh to a lake the guide has picked based on what you want to catch: pike, lake trout, arctic char, kokanee salmon, or whatever else is biting. The heated shelter keeps you warm while you fish, and each angler gets a Garmin sonar unit and access to a Livescope system so you can watch the fish below before you cast. The guide sets up the gear and handles the technical side. You fish.

The trip runs four hours, long enough to move between holes if the first spot stays quiet and to actually land something instead of just dropping a line. Snacks and warm drinks (hot chocolate and apple cider) come with it. You can ask for backcountry access when you book, or stay closer to the city. The guide will contact you to talk through what you're after and where to go.

Winter clothing is on you to bring, though rental is available if you didn't pack for the cold. A valid Yukon fishing license is required if you're 16 or older.
