Electric Hydrofoil Surfboard in Toronto: Fly Above Water
Lift off the water on a motorized hydrofoil board
An eFoil activity in Toronto pairs a 15-minute technical lesson with 45 minutes riding a beginner hydrofoil board that lifts you above the water on a wing-like structure. The electric motor propels you forward while the hydrofoil keeps the board suspended, creating a flying sensation rather than traditional water gliding. A guide leads the session in English, Spanish or Chinese, and safety gear (helmet, impact vest and optional wetsuit) is provided.

The experience
The eFoil board uses an electric motor and a hydrofoil wing beneath the surface to lift you above the water. Unlike jet skis or boats that plane across the top, the hydrofoil suspends the board in the air as you ride, which is what gives the flying sensation. The motor is quiet and runs on battery power, so there's no gas engine noise or emissions. Just you and the water.
You start with a 15-minute technical lesson covering how to balance, control the throttle and stay safe on the board. The guide walks through the equipment: a helmet, an impact vest, and a wetsuit if you want one. Then you get 45 minutes on a beginner eFoil board, which has a larger, more stable hydrofoil wing designed to make it easier to stay up and moving forward. The guide stays with you in the water to offer real-time feedback and help if you need it.
The whole session runs about an hour. You'll need at least a moderate level of physical fitness to handle the balance and core strength the board demands, and you must be at least 12 years old. The Fliteboard Hydro eFoil is included in the activity.

Is this one for you?The beginner board's larger, more stable hydrofoil wing is built for riders new to eFoiling or water sports in general, so you can focus on balance and control rather than fighting the board. If you have spinal injuries, are pregnant, or have cardiovascular concerns, this activity is not recommended due to the physical demands and impact forces involved.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English, Spanish and Chinese.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What is a hydrofoil and how does it keep the board above the water?
A hydrofoil is a wing-like structure attached beneath the eFoil board. As the electric motor propels you forward, water flows over the hydrofoil's shape, creating lift that suspends the board above the surface: similar to how an airplane wing works in air. Once you're up and moving, the board stays elevated rather than sitting on top of the water.
How long does the actual riding time last after the lesson?
You get 45 minutes on the water after the 15-minute technical lesson, so roughly an hour total for the activity. The lesson covers balance, throttle control and safety before you step on the beginner board.
What safety gear do I wear, and is a wetsuit required?
A helmet and impact vest are provided and required for every rider. A wetsuit is optional and depends on the water temperature and your comfort level. The guide will advise based on conditions when you arrive.
Is this activity suitable if I've never done water sports before?
Yes, the beginner eFoil board is designed for first-timers. It has a larger, more stable hydrofoil wing to make it easier to get up and stay balanced. The guide provides instruction and stays nearby during your 45 minutes on the water. You do need a moderate level of physical fitness and must be at least 12 years old.
Why is an eFoil quieter than a jet ski or motorboat?
An eFoil runs on an electric motor powered by a rechargeable battery, not a gas engine. Electric motors produce far less noise and no emissions, making the activity quieter and more environmentally friendly than traditional watercraft.
