The experience

The day starts with a 1.2 km hike through the terrain around Golden to reach the canyon entrance: some sections climb, so come ready to move. Once you arrive, the guide walks you through a rappelling workshop so you understand the equipment and feel steady before the real descent begins. This is where the adrenaline kicks in: you'll clip into the harness, step to the edge and zipline 30 meters across the canyon, gliding over smooth rock as you drop into the gorge below.

From the zipline landing, you navigate through the canyon itself, rappelling down three waterfalls in sequence. The guide stays with you through each one, managing the rope and coaching you through the motions. The rock is smooth and blueish, worn by water over time, and the waterfalls themselves are the anchor points for your descent. This is not a passive ride. You're operating the equipment, controlling your speed on the rope, and moving through the landscape under your own power.

All safety gear (harness, helmet, wetsuit) comes with the booking. Wear water-appropriate clothes (avoid cotton; a rain jacket helps), and bring water shoes or hiking sandals that can handle wet rock; Keen-style sandals and light running shoes won't work. The guide is certified and speaks English, and every participant signs a liability waiver before the trip starts. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.

Is this one for you?Four hours is long enough to hike in, practice rappelling, zipline and descend all three waterfalls, but short enough to fit the rest of a day in Golden. Book this in the morning and have the afternoon free.

Top questions

What happens if it rains?

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.

How long does the canyoning adventure take from start to finish?

The full experience runs four hours, including the approach hike, the rappelling workshop, the zipline, and the three waterfall descents.

What's the 30 meter zipline like, how fast do you go?

It's a controlled speed zipline that carries you across the canyon after the rappelling workshop, so you've already practiced the equipment. You glide over smooth rock as you descend into the gorge.

Do I need climbing or rappelling experience to do this?

No prior experience is required. The guide runs a rappelling workshop before you start, walking you through the technique and the gear so you feel confident on the waterfalls.

What should I wear and bring for a canyoning trip?

Wear warm hiking clothes (avoid cotton if possible) and bring a rain jacket or hard shell. Water shoes or hiking sandals that can get wet are required. Keen-style sandals and light running shoes are not accepted. Bring a towel, bathing suit, water and snacks.

What's included in the price, and what do I need to arrange myself?

The harness, helmet, wetsuit and all canyoning gear are included, along with a fully certified guide. You provide your own water shoes, hiking clothes, towel and snacks.
