The experience
The Kawasaki Teryx 800cc is built for families and groups. You reserve one buggy for your whole party whether it's 1 person or 4, so you're not splitting up. The vehicle handles forest trails year-round: summer mud, winter snow, dirt, rock and whatever the boreal forest throws at it. A guide leads the route, and the 90-minute session includes a 15-minute safety briefing before you head out, so you're not fumbling with controls once you're on the trail.
Up to 2 drivers can rotate behind the wheel during the ride. Everyone else rides as passengers and holds on using the handle beside their seat. The operator provides certified helmets (you can't wear your own), and in rainy summer weather they give you a rain poncho. Closed sport shoes are required, no sandals. A security deposit of $950 per vehicle is pre-authorized on your card or paid in cash before you ride. It's released when you return the buggy undamaged, though it can take about 5 business days for your bank to process the refund.
The guide speaks English or French. Drivers must be 18 with a valid license. Passengers need to be at least 5 years old and physically able to grip the handle. The activity is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health, or pregnancy.

Up to 2 participants in your group can drive during the 90 minutes. The rest ride as passengers. You must be 18 with a valid driver's license to take a turn at the wheel.
What are the trails like in Kawasaki?
The trails wind through the boreal forest and mountains with dirt, mud, rock and seasonal snow or water. The operator uses the term "dune buggy" to describe the vehicle type, not the terrain. There are no sand dunes in the area.
