The experience
The trip starts at Jake's Landing, where you meet your guide and repack your belongings into waterproof bags before paddling out into the wilderness. The route has minimal to no portaging, so you spend most of your time on the water and at camp rather than carrying canoes overland. On the paddle to your campsite, you might swim from the canoe flotilla on hot days or rest under old-growth hemlock trees. Once you arrive, you set up your tent, prepare a campfire dinner and settle in to watch the sunset and night sky.
Day two begins with french press coffee and a hot breakfast cooked over the campfire. After breaking down camp and packing the canoes, you explore the lake at an easy pace and eat lunch on the shore before paddling back to Jake's Landing by around 2pm. The focus throughout is on time spent relaxing at camp rather than pushing hard on the water, which is why this trip works well for families with children under 10, anyone new to paddling or anyone who wants an adventure without a heavy commitment.
