2-Day Angkor Wat Tour: Sunrise, Temples & Village
Catch Angkor Wat at dawn, then trade crowds for jungle temples and village life
This 2-day Angkor Wat tour starts before sunrise at the sanctuary, then moves through the major temples of Angkor Thom (Bayon, Baphuon, Terrace of the Elephants and Ta Prohm) on day one. Day two shifts to the less-visited Beng Mealea temple deep in jungle, followed by a visit to Kampong Phluk village on Tonle Sap lake, where you see how local Cambodians live beyond the archaeological sites. An English-speaking guide leads both days in an air-conditioned vehicle.

The experience
The early 5 AM start at Angkor Wat means you watch the sanctuary light up without the crowds that arrive later. After sunrise, the tour moves through Angkor Thom's central temples: Bayon with its stone faces, the pyramid-style Baphuon, and the Terrace of the Elephants where you walk past the carved wall of the former Royal Enclosure. Ta Prohm, the jungle temple with massive tree roots growing through its stones, closes out day one.
Day two takes a different route. Beng Mealea sits deeper in the forest, largely unrestored, so you navigate through collapsed galleries and overgrown courtyards: a rawer version of what Angkor looked like before excavation. The 1.5-hour exploration there is followed by a boat ride into Kampong Phluk village on Tonle Sap lake, where you see floating houses, fishing nets and the daily rhythms of families who live on the water. The itinerary balances major archaeological sites with spaces that feel less polished and more lived-in.
Your guide speaks English throughout both days. The vehicle is air-conditioned, and drinking water is provided. Temple entry fees and travel insurance are separate. If you choose a boat option for Kampong Phluk, that fee depends on group size: either two passengers or three to six.
