You operate the vehicle, not watch from one

ATV riding near Veliko Tarnovo combines off-road driving with visits to Lyaskovets Monastery and Hotnitsa waterfall. You drive an ATV or buggy along forest trails and open terrain after a safety briefing and practice session at the base in Arbanasi. The experience lasts 3.5 to 4 hours and includes helmet, goggles, fuel and an instructor's guidance throughout. No previous off-road experience is necessary.

The experience

What separates this from a standard ATV rental is the route itself: you're not circling a training ground, but driving toward real destinations. The day starts at the Arbanasi base with safety equipment, a detailed briefing and a practice session on the training track under instructor supervision. Once you're ready, you head out on trails that mix forest roads, open terrain and off-road sections. The ride takes you to Lyaskovets Monastery "Sv. Sv. Peter and Paul" and Hotnitsa waterfall, with roughly an hour of actual off-road driving woven into the route. You choose the pace (there's a 30-minute break at the waterfall to rest and take photos), and the return to base follows normal road.

The operator has been running this for over eight years with a fleet of more than 15 vehicles, so the trails are established and the safety structure is built in. You get a helmet and goggles, fuel is covered, and the instructor rides with the group. If time allows after the waterfall visit, there are additional off-road sections to explore on the way back. The whole experience is designed around actively driving through the landscape rather than observing it from a passenger seat.
