The experience

The tour starts with Obed Ramotswe's story and cattle's place in Botswana's history: the foundation of Precious's world in the novels. From there you drive down Zebra Drive, the street where Mma Ramotswe would have lived in the books. The house itself is private property, but the neighborhood and its architecture tell the story of where she belonged. You cannot enter, but you see the place as it exists.

The route then heads to the Old Tlokweng Bridge and the Notswane River, where Precious solved her very first case as a detective. Crossing into Tlokweng village, you pass Speedy Motors and the Orphan Farm (visits can be arranged separately if you want to stop). The drive loops back through Gaborone, passing Riverwalk Mall and through the suburb where Grace Makhutse lived before she got married: another thread from the stories. Along the way, your guide points out the places around the city where Mma Ramotswe solved her first few mysteries.

The tour includes bottled water and runs in an air-conditioned vehicle for the full three hours. A live guide speaks English throughout. Hotel pickup is included. If you want tea at the Mma Ramotswe tea corner, you can add that at checkout for around $5.
