Step-by-step itinerary

Rafting adventure on Tara and Drina rivers

  • Meet hosts and guides at resort
  • Travel to start point by off-road jeep
  • Raft 22 km through Tara Canyon
  • Continue rafting on Drina river
  • Return to river bank near resort
  • Optional lunch at resort restaurant

The experience

The day starts at the resort where you meet your guide and the other paddlers, then ride off-road jeeps to the river's start point. Once on the water, you navigate the lower Tara Canyon, Europe's deepest, where the rapids come thick and the landscape shifts between sheer rock walls and forested slopes. The guide times breaks for swimming under waterfalls, photographing the canyon and catching your breath between sections.

You paddle your own raft with a licensed guide and skipper steering the group through the current. Neoprene suit, boots, helmet, safety vest, anorak and waterproof bags come with the booking, so you show up and step in. The route covers the last 22 km of the Tara before dropping into the first few kilometers of the Drina, where the water opens up and the pace eases. When you reach the river bank next to the resort, the rafting ends and you can book a hot meal waiting at the restaurant.

Bring a USB or SD card (32 GB or larger) if you want the GoPro footage transferred to you after the tour. Free parking sits at the camp lot, and Wi-Fi is available while you're there. A minimum of four people per booking applies. If your group is smaller, contact the operator to check availability.
