The Experience
The museum opens with Sarajevo's golden age and moves through the city's transformation across decades. You navigate through galleries curated by artists, journalists, historians and citizens—each one built around a different thread of the city's story. The Infinity Room lets you stand inside a rock concert; a separate VR experience takes you down the Olympic bobsled track from the 1984 Winter Games. These are not passive screens: the museum asks you to move through spaces, choose what to linger on, and encounter the city through the eyes of people who lived it.
The museum won four gold awards—TourismExpo Award for best new attraction, Vision 100 Award for innovation in culture, and two No Limit Awards for best interior design and use of new technologies. The building itself is in the city center, and public transportation stops are nearby. A locker holds your belongings while you move through the exhibits. You choose your audio guide language at entry: six options mean you hear the stories in your own words.
The visit works for anyone, regardless of fitness level. How long you spend depends on whether you move quickly through the galleries or pause to engage with the interactive elements—the range is 45 minutes to 1.5 hours. Some visitors come for the VR experiences alone; others spend the full time moving through every section. The museum is designed so you can do either.
