The experience

You travel by vehicle through several Quechua communities for about an hour, passing through settlements that maintain their cultural identity through language and communal farming. A stop lets you pick up any items you need before moving on to the park entrance.

The hike itself is an easy 4-hour walk through Monte Villca's native forests, where you watch for red-fronted macaws and Andean foxes along birdwatching trails. Your local guide, from the indigenous communities in the region, walks with you and explains the park's role in protecting both the ecosystem and the ancient Quechua routes that cross it. The terrain moves through the Andes foothills, and the pace includes time to observe wildlife and take in the views.

Is this one for you?The full day, 7 to 8 hours, means you commit the morning and most of the afternoon, leaving little time for other activities in Sucre that same day. Choose this tour if you want to spend a full day hiking and learning from the communities themselves, rather than squeezing the park into a shorter outing.
