The Experience

The day starts at 8am in Belize City with pickup from your hotel or the ferry port if you're arriving from the islands. You'll head into the jungle to reach Altun Ha, the Mayan temple at the heart of the trip. The hike takes you to the top and around the site with a guide who walks you through the history of the Maya and what the temple meant to their civilization — context that changes how the stones read when you're standing in front of them.

From there you move deeper into the jungle for the cave systems. A 20-minute hike with your tube gets you to the entrance, and along the way the guide points out plants, insects and their medicinal uses throughout Belizean history. Then you tube down the river and through several caves, floating past rock formations and the kind of quiet that only happens underground. The caves are the centerpiece of the afternoon — you're moving through them under your own power, not watching from a boat.

The zipline comes last, a descent over the jungle canopy before the return to Belize City around 4pm. Lunch, water, fruit, snacks and all park fees are included. The group stays under 10 people, which means the guide can actually answer questions and you're not threading through crowds at the temple or the cave entrance. A guide speaks English or Spanish depending on your group.
