The experience

The day starts with a brief tour of Bridgetown's historic district (the Garrison, National Heroes Square, Parliament, Chamberlain Bridge and the main streets) before heading into the countryside. From there you move into a guided or self-guided walk through a tropical forest where you can watch both plants and animals in their setting, then take time to rest and breathe the clean air coming off the Atlantic on the east coast.

The gardens themselves make up the heart of the tour. Hunte's Gardens sits in what was once a natural gully, now planted with tall palms and surrounded by quiet. Andromeda Botanic Gardens spreads across 6 acres with self-guided walking paths through tropical plants, flowers and trees. Orchid World occupies a six-acre property at roughly 800 feet above sea level in the middle of sugarcane fields. The elevation gives you views across the countryside, and the garden holds more than 1,000 orchids on display alongside thousands of other Caribbean plants and flowers. Rest stops are built into the garden so you can sit and take in the landscape.

You travel in a private air-conditioned vehicle throughout the day. Water, juice, soda and local coconut bread are provided. The tour runs seven hours total and suits all fitness levels. Specialized infant seats are available if needed.
