The Atlantis Submarine tour in Barbados is a 2-hour guided dive to depths of 150 feet aboard a pressurized vessel with large viewports, departing hourly from the Shallow Draught. A seven-minute shuttle ride on the Ocean Quest takes you to the submarine, where a co-pilot narrates the 40-minute underwater voyage and helps identify the fish, coral and shipwreck outside your window. Children must be at least 4 years old and 36 inches tall; wheelchair guests can participate if they can safely navigate a 7-step ladder. You receive an Atlantis Submarines Dive certificate at the end.

The Experience

The day starts at the Shallow Draught, where you check in and board the Ocean Quest, a transfer vessel that carries you on a seven-minute scenic cruise along the coastline to the Atlantis Submarine. The crew gives a safety briefing during the ride, so by the time you reach the dive site you know what to expect. The transfer between vessels is easy—you step across from one to the other as they tie up alongside each other—and then you're inside the air-conditioned submarine, seated in front of large viewports that wrap around the cabin.

Once the hatches are secured, the call comes: "Dive! Dive! Dive!" You descend to depths of 150 feet, a range that was once reserved only for scuba divers. The co-pilot narrates the entire 40-minute underwater adventure, pointing out the exotic fish that peer in at you through the viewports, the sea fans swaying on the seafloor, and the shipwreck that lies below. You don't have to identify anything yourself—the guide does that work—so you can focus on watching the Caribbean Sea unfold outside your window.

The tour runs on the hour throughout the day, with departures at 9am, 10am, 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm. The whole experience takes about two hours from check-in to certificate. A 2.5% government levy is added at check-in. If you need transportation to the Shallow Draught, that can be arranged separately at checkout.
