From there the guide takes you to Shahbag Flower Market for 20 minutes, then to Curzon Hall, a 1904 building that blends European and Mughal architecture. These early stops set the pace: you are moving through the city as locals do, on foot and by the transport that fills these streets.

The rickshaw carries you to Lalbagh Fort, the unfinished 17th-century Mughal fort where construction began under Prince Azam, son of Emperor Aurangzeb; you have 30 minutes there. Next comes the Star Mosque, built in 1711 by Mughal landlord Mirza Gulam Pir and named for its tiled interior, and the Armenian Church, erected in 1781 by Armenian settlers. Both are 20-minute stops. The Pink Palace (Ahsan Manzil) gets 30 minutes — a landmark of Dhaka's later prosperity — followed by Shankhari Bazar, the oldest and most photogenic street in the city, where artisans work in trades their ancestors brought 400 years ago.

The rowboat ride along the Buriganga River takes you to the ship-breaking yard, where hundreds of workers dismantle old vessels, repair hulls and build new ships. You spend 30 minutes watching the work unfold on the water. The guide speaks English throughout, and entry fees to the Star Mosque, Armenian Church, Curzon Hall and the city itself are covered; the tour ends with hotel drop-off.
