The experience

The ride starts with a 20-minute drive from your hotel to the stables near Bahrain Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Before mounting, you'll sit down for traditional Arabic coffee or tea with local delicacies: a moment to settle in before the trail. The stables staff brief you on safety and pair you with a tame horse suited to your riding ability, then you follow the same routes once traveled by Kassites, Greeks, Portuguese and Persians dating back to 2300 BC. The approximate one-hour ride takes you past villages and toward the Bahrain Fort, silhouetted against the sunset, then continues to Karbabad beach for a breezy stretch before returning to the centre.

A local guide leads the ride and speaks English. Helmets are available for all riders and required for children 12 and under. The route is designed for riders with at least moderate fitness. The operator does not accommodate riders over 250 pounds. Hotel pickup and drop-off are included, as is bottled water and all taxes and fees.
