The experience
The two formulas let you match the tour to your ship's schedule. The shorter Manama city tour packs the capital's landmarks into five hours: Al-Fateh Grand Mosque, one of the world's largest, with its marble interiors and global materials; Bahrain Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site that was the ancient Dilmun capital and now overlooks the bay; the Manama Souq, where narrow alleys hold spice stalls, textiles and gold shops; and The Avenues, where you get free time and the option to take a boat ride on Bahrain Bay. The full seven-hour route keeps all of that and adds the desert south: the 400-year-old Tree of Life standing alone in the sand, Bahrain's first oil well from 1932 where the kingdom's modern history began, a camel farm where you can photograph the animals up close, and a photo stop at the Formula 1 circuit that hosts the Bahrain Grand Prix.
Your guide speaks English or Italian and travels with you in an air-conditioned vehicle. The operator times both itineraries to your actual docking and departure times, so the route adjusts to maximize your hours on land and get you back to Khalifa Bin Salman port in time to board. Bottled water and a date tasting come with the tour. Meals are not included, though you'll have free time at The Avenues and the souq to eat if you choose.
