The experience

The brewery part runs first. Your guide meets you at the harbour and drives the group by air-conditioned bus to Bahamian Brewery. You walk through the liquor store, climb two flights to an open balcony overlooking the manufacturing floor, and the brewery team guide explains what happens below: the equipment, the process, the batches in progress. There's a photo stop at the "Strong Back" boat mural and restrooms. Then you move into the Hospitality Room, the tasting space, where you sample up to 6 different beers made on-site, including gold medal winners and a stout. You stay as long as you want to find the one you prefer. After tasting, you browse the brewery gift shop and liquor store before heading back to the bus.

The drive to the beach takes about 25 minutes. Your guide points out residential and commercial areas, shares stories of the island's past and present. You arrive at Lucayan Beach Resort, a 4-star property where your day pass gives you access to the beach and lounge chairs. The beach itself is long, shallow and sandy: built for swimming or just sitting. You also have access to 4 swimming pools, including an infinity pool with views. The poolside bar, called Wave, sells food and drinks. Across the street is Port Lucaya Marketplace, the largest indoor and outdoor shopping on the island: straw goods, local crafts, name-brand jewelry, perfumes, and a fresh conch stand on the bay. You have 2 hours to split however you want: all beach, all shopping, or some of each. On the return to your ship, you see more of the island.
