Swing into a Tyrolean gorge on your first canyoning day

Canyoning Ötztal for beginners is a three-hour activity in the Alpenrosenklamm gorge where you swing from a rope, slide, abseil and jump through a mountain stream with a certified guide, full safety equipment and a warm wetsuit included. Children from age 12 are welcome. The tour runs in English or German and operates in most weather. Transport to the starting point at 1,700 meters and a safety briefing are part of the time.

The experience

What makes a beginner's canyoning tour worth doing is the moment you actually do something, not watch it happen. Here, that moment arrives fast: you swing freely down into the gorge from a 20-meter-high bridge using a rope, and the gorge itself is the Alpenrosenklamm, a stream canyon on the upper Nederbach where it flows from Kühtai into the Ötztal. The tour covers roughly two hours of active canyoning through slides, abseils and small jumps, all of it set inside untouched Tyrolean nature. Because the Alpenrosenklamm is tamer than the more technical sections downstream, the terrain stays accessible to people with no prior experience.

You'll be driven up to almost 1,700 meters in a minibus, where the gorge is easier to navigate than it would be lower down. A certified guide leads the group in English or German, and the whole outing (getting dressed, the drive, the safety talk, the canyoning itself) takes around three hours. The gear is handled: you get a warm wetsuit, full safety equipment and special shoes. Bad weather doesn't stop it. The setup is designed so the tour runs in most conditions.

Is this one for you?Book this if you're new to canyoning and want to try the real thing: the rope swing and the gorge are the point, and the beginner's route is what makes them accessible without prior experience. Small groups work best here. You'll move through the canyon with your guide and a handful of others, not a crowd.
