The experience
The day starts in Launceston and heads south through the Georgian townships of Evandale and Campbell Town. You'll stop in Campbell Town to pick up lunch and walk the Convict Brick Trail, which winds through the town's historic streets past the Red Bridge and tree sculptures telling the area's convict history. Then the route enters Freycinet National Park, where the Hazards mountain range comes into view.
Your first walk is the Cape Tourville Lighthouse circuit, a 20-minute easy loop that delivers 360-degree views of the coastline. After that, the main event: a moderate uphill walk of around 60 minutes to the Wineglass Bay Lookout. The trail climbs 1.3 km through the park, and once you reach the top, you're standing above the crescent of white sand and turquoise water that makes Wineglass Bay one of Tasmania's most photographed spots. Your guide helps with photos and gives you time to take in the view.
At the lookout, the day splits. If you've had enough walking, you return with the guide and spend the afternoon at Honeymoon Bay before heading to Devil's Corner Winery for the final stop. If you want more, you can push on to Wineglass Bay Beach itself: a 2.5-hour return walk that requires good fitness. Those who make it down reach the actual beach, where you can swim, eat lunch on the sand, or just walk the white shoreline. Either way, the tour ends at Devil's Corner Winery, where wine tastings, wood-fired pizza, fresh seafood, and ice cream are available at your own expense, then returns to Launceston around 6pm.
