The Experience

The ferry crossing takes 45 minutes each way, and the driver picks you up from your accommodation and handles the whole route — so the day is built without you planning the transport or timing the boat. Once on the island, the tour moves through four main stops, each with its own rhythm. Myora Springs sits a few kilometres out of Dunwich, where a pure freshwater spring has run for thousands of years; the banks hold Aboriginal middens with shells and evidence of a favoured camping place. The Gorge Walk at Point Lookout is the vantage point for spotting turtles, dolphins and manta rays year-round, and from June to November humpback whales pass close enough to watch during their migration.

After lunch (which you choose from Point Lookout's restaurants and ice cream shops), the afternoon moves to Amity Point for a gentle stroll beneath coastal gums, where koalas often rest high in the canopy. The final stop is Brown Lake, a perched freshwater lake stained brown by native tea tree tannins, ringed by native bushland and wildflowers in spring. It's a swimming spot and picnic place where the quiet settles in, especially in early morning or late afternoon. Depending on opening days, there may also be time for the Quandamooka Art and Culture Centre or a local museum to deepen what you've seen.

The whole day runs 10 to 12 hours from pickup to return. A guide travels with the group throughout, speaking English, German or Dutch, and the private transport means the pace stays steady and the group stays small — minimum three participants, maximum set by the vehicle. You leave with photographs and the slower rhythm the island offers.
