The experience
How do you spend an evening on Magnetic Island without fighting the crowds? Book the West Point Sunset Safari and let Bessie, the tour's air-conditioned bus, carry you to a part of the island most visitors miss. West Point sits on the quieter west coast, facing the mainland across the Coral Sea: a vantage point that turns the sunset into something worth planning around. The tour runs 2.5 hours total, so you can fit it into an evening without losing the rest of your day.
You'll sit back in a 25-seat vehicle with your guide Tim, who knows the island well enough to point out what matters. The real draw is the moment itself: watching the sky shift from gold to orange to pink as it drops below the horizon, with a drink in hand and a shared platter of seasonal food in front of you. Complimentary champagne, wine, beer or juice comes with the booking, and you can request your preference when you reserve. Beach chairs and blankets are free to use, so you can settle in properly instead of standing at the railing.
Pickup happens at either Nelly Bay ferry terminal at 5:15pm or Picnic Bay jetty at 5:25pm. You choose which one works for where you're staying. Let the operator know your preference and your dietary needs when you book. The tour includes travel time, so the full 2.5 hours covers the drive out, the time at West Point and the return.
