The Experience

The day starts with a morning departure from Cairns aboard Great Adventures' fast catamaran. You get tea or coffee served onboard during the 45-minute crossing to Green Island, a 6000-year-old coral cay in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and the only one with a rainforest. Once you arrive, the island's day visitor facilities are yours to use—a pool exclusive to Great Adventures passengers, a restaurant, a bar, and refreshment options.

The Seawalker helmet experience is the centerpiece. You walk on the seafloor at a specially selected site minutes offshore, wearing a helmet that supplies air so your head stays completely dry and you can even keep your glasses on. Professional underwater guides supervise the dive at all times. You're surrounded by colourful tropical fish and coral, moving at your own pace on the island's seafloor. A professional photographer captures images underwater; these are available to purchase afterward. The experience is designed for non-swimmers—no prior diving certification or swimming ability required—though you do need at least moderate physical fitness and must complete a medical questionnaire before participating.

After the helmet dive, you choose how to spend the rest of your day on the island: either a glass-bottom boat tour to see the reef from above the water, or snorkelling gear to explore on your own. You can also take a self-guided walk around the island itself. Departure times vary—you can leave Cairns at 8:30am or 10:30am and return at either 2:30pm or 4:30pm, depending on which option you select at checkout.
