You’ll hike rocky paths through the Grampians to reach The Pinnacle lookout, feel icy spray at MacKenzie Falls, and share laughs over lunch in Halls Gap village. Expect mountain air, wild kangaroo sightings, and moments where you just want to stand still and take it all in.
Your day covers entry into the Grampians park itself plus two guided hikes — one up to The Pinnacle and another down to MacKenzie Falls — with rain ponchos provided if needed. You’ll have plenty of photo stops at Boroka Lookout and around Halls Gap village before heading back toward Melbourne together in your small group minibus.

Our guide, Sarah, had this habit of stopping mid-story to point out tiny wildflowers poking through cracks. She said the local name for one was “egg and bacon” (still not sure if she was joking). The Grand Canyon part of the hike felt almost secretive, with those tall stone walls closing in and everyone’s voices getting quieter without really meaning to. Silent Street is a good name for it. By the time we reached The Pinnacle, I was out of breath but grinning like an idiot. You can see all of Halls Gap and beyond — it’s hard not to just stand there for a while and forget you’re with a group.
Lunch was at some bakery Sarah recommended in Halls Gap. I went for a meat pie because honestly, when in Australia… The air smelled like eucalyptus outside, and there were magpies hopping around eyeing our crumbs. After that came MacKenzie Falls. The walk down is steep — my knees complained — but hearing that waterfall before seeing it made me speed up anyway. Cold spray on your face feels pretty good after hiking in the sun. A couple of us dipped our toes in; I lasted about three seconds before yanking mine out (mountain water is no joke). Someone tried skipping stones and failed spectacularly — lots of laughter echoing off the rocks.
Boroka Lookout was our last big stop. The light was starting to turn gold over Lake Bellfield and Mt William ranges. There’s something about watching shadows stretch across valleys that makes you go quiet inside for a bit. On the way back through Halls Gap, Sarah slowed down so we could spot kangaroos lounging on someone’s lawn like they owned the place (maybe they do). It’s funny how quickly you start rooting for them to hop closer.
