The experience

Two hours is enough time to leave the shore, settle into the rhythm of the Broadwater, and watch the light change across the water. The yacht sails the calm stretch between the mainland and South Stradbroke Island, a sand barrier that keeps the ocean swell out and the sailing smooth. You'll pass Wavebreak, a man-made island built in the late 1970s to protect the coast, where million-dollar yachts sit at anchor. The crew handles the sail and the navigation. Your job is to sit back with a drink and a plate of snacks and keep an eye out for the wildlife that moves through these waters: dolphins are common, rays glide past, sea eagles hunt overhead, and if you're lucky, a dugong surfaces nearby.

The charter runs for up to 10 people, so it stays intimate even at full capacity. Guests over 18 get two glasses of sparkling wine and beer. Anyone else gets non-alcoholic drinks. A deluxe snack plate comes out during the sail. Blankets are on hand during the cooler months. The guide is live and speaks English, so questions about what you're seeing get answered as you go. Infants can ride in a pram or stroller, and service animals are welcome.

Is this one for you?Book this if you want your group sailing alone on the yacht rather than joining other passengers, and the calm Broadwater waters suit you whether you're new to sailing or experienced.

Top questions

What happens if it rains?

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.

What is Wavebreak Island and why do we sail past it?

Wavebreak is a man-made island built in the late 1970s to protect the mainland from ocean swell. It's a landmark on the Broadwater route and often has expensive yachts anchored nearby, so it's worth a look as you sail.

Will we see dolphins on the charter?

Dolphins are common in the Broadwater, and the calm waters make sightings likely. Rays, sea eagles and occasionally dugongs also move through the area, so there's always something to watch for.

What drinks and food are included?

Guests over 18 receive two complimentary glasses of sparkling wine and beer. All guests get a deluxe snack plate. Non-alcoholic beverages are available for anyone who prefers them, and you're welcome to bring your own drinks as well.

Is this charter suitable for young children and infants?

Yes. Infants can travel in a pram or stroller and must sit on an adult's lap. The Broadwater is calm and suitable for all fitness levels, so children generally do well on the sail.

How does the crew run the yacht during the charter?

The crew handles all the sailing and navigation. You don't need any sailing experience or knowledge. Your role is to relax, enjoy the views and the refreshments, and watch the water.
