The Experience

We were already laughing before we even got onto the jet skis — maybe it was the nerves, or maybe just the way our guide, Dan, explained the throttle (“not too much unless you want to meet a mangrove up close”). Dan told stories about growing up around here — apparently he used to sneak out to fish these waters as a kid. The sun came out stronger then, making everything look sharper, louder somehow.

On the way back, we went faster — or maybe it just felt that way because everyone was braver now. Someone behind me whooped so loud it echoed off the water.
